Lash extensions: myths and reality

There are still plenty of fears around extensions — mostly inherited from the era of makeshift materials and kitchen-table artists. Let's take apart the five most persistent myths.

Myth 1. "Your own lashes will fall out"

Your lashes fall out anyway — it's a natural renewal cycle that runs regardless of extensions (more on growth phases in "An infill or a full re-do?"). After removal the eyes look "bare" only by contrast: you simply got used to the density.

Myth 2. "The adhesive is harmful"

A matter of quality. Cheap non-professional glue can indeed cause swelling and allergies. Professional adhesives applied with proper technique cause no harm; an individual reaction is possible but very rare — and a competent artist knows what to do.

Myth 3. "Your own lashes will break"

With correct technique — one extension per natural lash, no stickies, no overload — natural lashes stay intact for the whole wear period.

Myth 4. "Removal ruins your lashes"

DIY removal at home does. In the studio the adhesive is dissolved with a professional remover and the extensions come off without harming your own lashes.

Myth 5. "It will only last a week"

Poor-quality work lasts a week. A set done by the technology with good materials wears three weeks and longer — until the planned infill or a new set.

The bottom line is simple: almost all fears about extensions are really fears about a bad artist. Choose a studio that stands behind its materials and technique — and extensions will only bring joy.
